Implicit Response Analysis System

Measure Unconscious Associations Through Timed Responses

IRAS captures what traditional surveys miss. By limiting response time, we reveal implicit attitudes and gut reactions that deliberate thinking often masks.

What is IRAS?

The Implicit Response Analysis System is a research platform designed to measure unconscious associations. Traditional surveys allow participants time to deliberate and self-censor. IRAS introduces time pressure, typically 30 seconds per question, to capture instinctive responses that reflect implicit rather than explicit attitudes.

How It Works

Time pressure reveals what deliberation conceals

1

Researcher Creates Survey

Design questions with 4 response options. Set time limits (default 30 seconds). Questions appear one at a time with a prominent countdown timer.

2

Participants Respond Quickly

Participants see the countdown and must respond before time runs out. This time pressure encourages gut reactions rather than calculated responses.

3

Analyze Implicit Patterns

IRAS captures response times, timeout rates, and answer distributions. Compare results across demographics to identify cultural or group differences.

Research Applications

IRAS supports a wide range of cross-cultural and cognitive research

Cross-Cultural Studies
Compare how different cultures perceive concepts like democracy, justice, freedom, and leadership
Implicit Attitudes
Measure attitudes that participants may not consciously endorse or may be reluctant to express
Stereotype Research
Study automatic associations between social groups and attributes without self-report bias
Decision Making
Analyze how time pressure affects choices and reveals underlying value hierarchies

Platform Features
